Celebrating Black History Month
Commemorating Black Americans/ painting with chocolate syrup
Students will work in teams to complete large scale monochromatic paintings in chocolate syrup.
1. Students will be broken up into groups of 2-4.
2. Finger painting paper will be given to each group of students
3. Students will be instructed to experiment with the chocolate syrup, working to get a variety of textures and values out of this experimental medium.
4. Each group will receive a pre drawn image of a notable African American person from history on finger painting paper and must determine the positive and negative areas- only positive areas are painted.
5. As we work we will discuss who the subjects of their portraits are and what we know about them.
6. Groups will also be given an additional piece of paper with the opportunity to create a painting of their own design
7. Students will complete one or more final compositions in their groups
